Easy, 30 minute leisurely hike with views

On the map below you will see Flat Rock (not a listed trail), which has a parking lot right on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just 5 minutes from the Lodge, its about a 30 minute round trip hike and is a great spot if you want a quick hike with beautiful views. As described, the top has flat rock areas where you can relax with a picnic or a beer (BYO).

Grandfather Mountain plays host to a handful of fun activities, including wildlife habitats, several hiking trails, and the famous mile high swinging bridge. If you’re feeling adventurous, there is an all-day hike up the mountain, or you can opt to drive to the top for the view.

Spectacular three-tiered waterfall plunging into Linville Gorge with three trails to access: The Falls Trail (1.6 miles round trip, easy), The Plunge Basin Trail (1 mile round trip, moderate), and The Gorge Trail (1.6 miles round trip, strenuous).

Below you will find a list of multi-use trails in the Moses H. Cone Memorial Park area, Julian Price Park and Grandfather Mountain area, and Linville Gorge area.

Located in the Pisgah National forest, the Linville Gorge Wilderness is formed by the Jonas Ridge on the east and Linville Mountain on the west. 2,000 feet below runs the Linville River. More information on this area can be found here.

The Tanawha Trail stretches 13.5 miles along Grandfather Mountain parallel to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The trail traverses a fragile and ancient ecosystem and leads hikers through a surprising range of biological and geological terrains.
